The rezoning process takes time, even for fairly simple amendments, and notwithstanding the timeframes set out in the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, Altus Planning’s default advice to its clients is that it ordinarily takes 12-18 months. With a correctly presented application (and a little bit of luck) these timeframes can be significantly reduced.
Altus Planning was recently successful in undertaking a scheme amendment to allow for the additional use of a Resource Recovery Centre on a Rural Industry zoned property in the locality of Coonabidgee within the Shire of Gingin. This facility will allow for waste to be sorted and processed on site before being taken to market. Pleasingly for us and our client, the amendment process was wrapped up earlier this year within a total of 9 months (or 7 months from the date of initiation to the date of gazettal) and we were also successful in obtaining the subsequent development approval earlier this month.
Should you have a project that requires a rezoning or an amendment to a regional or local planning scheme, please do not hesitate to contact the team at Altus Planning for an obligation free appraisal.
