Design WA keeps a rolling

The Minister will launch the State Government’s Action Plan for Planning Reform which responds to the summary of submissions received on the Modernising WA’s Planning System Green Paper. The Minister will outline the key initiatives that will bring greater clarity, consistency and efficiency to the planning system, to help create great places.

The Minister will also launch the next phase of Design WA, draft Precinct Design Policy – signalling the start of a two-month public consultation period. Precinct Design aims to achieve good design quality and transform the built environment to deliver economic, environmental, social and cultural benefits for the community.

The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA – Joe is a state committee member) will be hosting a special breakfast launch with the Minister in attendance on 13 August 2019. Get your tickets here.

North Street Store

What happens when a tired and run down old corner store in Cottesloe gets taken over by 2 young budding bakers and chefs? It becomes the corner store of the future par excellence by providing locals with everything from fresh milk and artisan bread to complete gourmet meals. Altus Planning are working with the Town of Cottesloe to help sort out zoning and scheme requirements which are more reflective of a time when a corner ‘shop’ sold stale pies and cigarettes.

Altus Planning would like to congratulate North Street Store for winning four gold medals at the recent Perth Royal Food Awards where it was also judged the most successful bread exhibitor. Click here to find out more.

Nedlands Local Planning Scheme (LPS3)

In a special event hosted by Exclusive Residence & Hub Residential on 25 June 2019, Joe was invited to speak to interested City of Nedlands residents about some of the density changes that have resulted with the gazettal of the City’s new Local Planning Scheme No. 3 on 16 April 2019. Joe’s first planning position was with Nedlands 27 years ago and he was working on the elusive new scheme then! Some important changes have occurred in LPS3, particularly along Stirling Highway. Rezonings take time

The rezoning process takes time, even for fairly simple amendments, and notwithstanding the timeframes set out in the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, Altus Planning’s default advice to its clients is that it ordinarily takes 12-18 months. With a correctly presented application (and a little bit of luck) these timeframes can be significantly reduced.

Altus Planning was recently successful in undertaking a scheme amendment to allow for the additional use of a Resource Recovery Centre on a Rural Industry zoned property in the locality of Coonabidgee within the Shire of Gingin. This facility will allow for waste to be sorted and processed on site before being taken to market. Pleasingly for us and our client, the amendment process was wrapped up earlier this year within a total of 9 months (or 7 months from the date of initiation to the date of gazettal) and we were also successful in obtaining the subsequent development approval earlier this month.

Should you have a project that requires a rezoning or an amendment to a regional or local planning scheme, please do not hesitate to contact the team at Altus Planning for an obligation free appraisal.
